The edge between two territories is a tenuous, wafer-thin lamina. While the “private” is prone to paranoia and insularity, the “public” suffers the “tragedy of the commons” (Garrett Hardin, 1968).
This project investigates what it means to occupy the edge itself. If an abutting public space is a shared resource that adds value to private territory, then what is the reciprocal contribution of the “private” to the “public”? Can stake exist even after territoriality is partially relinquished? It is an exploration of the edge as an interstitial, multi-layered site for a more equitable negotiation between territories.
